what is that thing?

sun was out and bike was clean (thanks greg) so i decided to just get out for a short ride and clear my head. no garb, helmet, gloves, or pack– just shoes and a water bottle (even forgot to bring the essentials: tube, levers, air). made my way through the path in the 'hood over towards fairmount, but cut north by the ball fields. messed around trying to keep a line up/over/down the parking blocks, avoiding the rebar sticking up in most. decided to head over to that overhang structure that i've been meaning to check out since it went up on the hill (visible from highway 93 by 64th ave). still not sure what it is used for, but it is a bunker for some kind of system buried below in the hill. weather station? power terminal for the ball fields? whatever it is, there is a concrete bench out front which made for some relaxing gazing skyward, sun on my face, appreciating the pattern of the geometric layout of the red steel against a blue sky.

a good reminder from days of youth that sometimes bikes are just a means to get away and explore someplace new, then take you back home.
