sunshine & dirt

seems kinda wrong to me, but march is actually the snowiest month in CO… which is why when you get a 70˚ day (weekend no less) after a short warming spell, you gotta hit the dirt.

felt good/odd to be on the tracer again and riding something other than pavement. after a crazy string of emails w/ the local crew (ice, hil, jason, taylor, anthony, michelle, ed & jen, kirk) trying to organize a ride, i went out on my own to try out ye olde matthews/winters (red rocks) and dakota ridge loop. whaddya know, i wasn't the only one w/ this bright idea; likely the most crowded i've ever seen a JCOS trail, and most definitely the most dogs i've ever seen (at least 40% or more). but hey, i'm riding my bike in the sun, in shorts, w/ only a few hundred yards of muddy conditions on the northerly faces of MW. bonus, i cleared the tight right turn between the two boulders which seems to swallow my front wheel more often than not lately (or shall i say, last season anyway). EDIT: just realized that spot is shown in my little photo montage above– 3rd row 2nd column (after a spill last year). tight right, split the rocks, drop down, back up, on your way…

dakota ridge was interesting as always. perhaps the most sloppy technique i've ever mustered up there (hey, it's early). and wouldn't you know, along the ridge i ran into these punks:
