got up to heil ranch this afternoon after a couple of quick meetings in boulder. i haven't ridden there in a very long time. two years ago when i was prep'ing for the kokopelli trip, my bro-in-law and i rode there quite a bit in the spring. i remember quite vividly, being early season, how i struggled up there gasping for breath early on since you basically climb up from the TH. it was a nice surprise tonight –even being "end of season"– that i was able to ride up w/o too much effort (middle ring the entire time, which says something since i normally drop to granny at the first sign of an incline). it was also the first time i got to ride the new trail, wild turkey, that BMA was instrumental in initiating up there– kudos to them, as it makes heil a more viable destination.
supposedly a big storm on the way in tomorrow, so this may have been the last dry dirt for a few days anyway…
found a little rock obstacle left by the trail fairies:
